It all came together for the Brahmas on Saturday.
Starting pitcher Ryan Santhon delivered an amazing start for Pierce baseball, going seven innings, giving up just one hit and one run while striking out nine as the Brahmas beat Porterville 10-1.
“He’s been phenomenal,” said head coach John Bushart, of Santhon. “That’s two quality starts from him. He’s jumped in nicely.”
David Whetstone had four hits, and RBI and three runs scored as he led the offensive assault.
Zachary Wagner had three hits of his own, and Nick Rodarte and Matt Moreno had two each.
Despite the strong offensive shower, head coach John Bushart says that things could still change.
“We have a lot of depth with the position players,” he said. “We’ve been mixing and matching…especially in the outfield. We’ve got seven or eight quality outfielders.”
The Brahmas also have depth in their starting rotation, with sophomores Rodarte and Carlos Gonzalez providing the experience and leadership.
“Coming back from last year, they were 14-2 together,” said Bushart. “So they’re the leaders of this staff.”
The Brahmas victory brought their overall record on the season to 5-1.
