Pierce College President Robert Garber announced today that Gail Hobbs, a longtime Pierce geography professor, died last night.
Hobbs, who earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Ill., a master’s degree in geography from the University of California, Los Angeles and an honorary doctorate from Concordia University in River Forest, Ill. began her career at Pierce in 1985.
She taught honors physical geography, cultural geography, cartography and base map developments, introduction to global positioning systems and various geographic information systems classes.
According to her Web site, Hobbs was the president of National Council for Geographic Education in 1999 and was the Co-coordinator of the Southern California Geographic Alliance Society of Women Geographers in 1987-1997. She was also affiliated with the Association of American Geographers, the California Geographical Society and the Los Angeles Geographical Society.
