Pierce College will be participating in the Great Southern California Shakeout, the largest earthquake-preparedness drill in U.S. history, tomorrow at 10 a.m.

There are 2.5 million participants so far in the ShakeOut Drill, including 279 businesses and 164 schools in the greater metropolitan Los Angeles area.

The Los Angeles Community College District is not participating as a whole, but Larry Eisenberg, executive director of plant facilities for the LACCD, said, "It's up to each college whether they want to do it or not."

Pierce was not going to participate at first, but when Pierce President Robert Garber heard of the drill, he decided the school would participate.

Paul Nieman, director of plants facilities, said, "We haven't had a drill of our emergency plan in action for a while and decided that the Great Southern California Shakeout was a perfect time to run one. The pieces just seemed to fall into place and everything fit together as something that would be really good to do."
