SEPT. 3, 2008 - The women's volleyball team began their season with a 3-0 victory in tonight's match against San Bernardino, picking up last season's flag after winning last year's Western State Conference.

The team won the first set, 25-11; the second set, 25-20; and the third set, 25-14.

"We had a little bit of the jitters, but I thought we played OK," head coach Nabil Mardini said of a team that has won more than 80 percent of their games in the past seven years. "We've got some things to work on."

The women's team won the Western State Conference seven times in a row since 2001, Mardini's second year as head coach.
As for the season ahead of them - including the Las Vegas Tournament taking place Friday and Saturday - Mardini says he expects to win the whole thing.
