California Community Colleges received an unprecedented $70 million commitment from the Bernard Osher Foundation May 6. "The more we looked into the higher education community, the more we've convinced ourselves of the need of the community college system," said Mary Bitterman, president of the Bernard Osher Foundation.
The last steel beam of the new Student Services Building was signed by involved project members at a "topping off" ceremony yesterday, commemorating the beginning of a new phase toward the year-away completion of the $18 million building.
CONSTRUCTION The various construction projects scattered around campus will all contribute to what construction director David Tsao calls a "brand new facelift" for Pierce College. It was a busy year for building, since the new projects have completed the design stage and have begun to be physically realized.
SEPT. 2, 2008 -- Students trying to deal with back-to-school disarray may find this semester less stressful thanks to the opening of the new 700-space Parking Lot 8 and the addition of a disabled-student van service. The van service - which will continue indefinitely - will include the new lot, located off El Rancho Drive, as one of the six pickup points.
A child was airlifted out of Pierce College after a Los Angeles Fire Department helicopter landed on the soccer field around 7:15 p.m. While the age and condition of the child was unavailable, Officer Morales of the Pierce Sheriff's Office said the incident was unrelated to Pierce.
